Former UH-Hilo golfer Chris Keiter shot a 69 on Monday at a local U.S. Open qualifier at The Club at Hokulia in Kailua-Kona.
Naalehu’s Hunter Larson (71) also advanced to a June 6 sectional qualifier for the national championship, and the first alternate was former Vulcan Dalen Yamauchi (72), a Waiakea graduate.

Jimmy Yagi hoops camp
The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation invites keiki basketball players to its fourth annual Jimmy Yagi Summer Hoops Camp, which returns to Hilo from July 26-29.
The camp is open to boys and girls 9-17 years, and the early registration fee is $60 per child.
UH-Hilo basketball coaches David Kaneshiro and GE Coleman will serve as lead clinicians during the camp. All participants will receive a camp shirt and group photo.
Make checks payable to the County Director of Finance and include the note “Jimmy Yagi Summer Hoops Camp.”
Registration forms are available at the Department’s recreation office located within Aunty Sally Kaleohano’s Lu‘au Hale at 799 Pi‘ilani St. in Hilo, county gyms islandwide, and at http://www.hawaiicounty.gov/parks-and-recreation/.

Waiakea meeting for volleyball
The Waiakea girls volleyball team will hold a meet and greet potluck for players and coaches from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the school gym.
The meeting will include information for Waiakea’s voluntary summer workout program as well as clarify any questions from players and parents for all girls in grades 9-12 and eight-graders who are interested in trying out next season.

for Vuls Gaspar
UH-Hilo sophomore Bailey Gaspar was selected first-team NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association Softball West Region as a designated player.
Earlier, Gaspar – who hit .415 with six home runs and 36 RBIs – was named first-team 2016 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II all-Region designated player. She was also a second-team all-PacWest utility selection and UH Hilo’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year.
Waikoloa Lions
golf tournament
The Waikoloa Lions annual golf tournament will be held at 7:45 a.m. May 21 at Waikoloa Village Golf Course.
The cost is $100 per person, which includes lunch at Pueo Osteria, prizes and entry into the closest to the pin contest.
The format is a two-person scramble, shotgun start. The Entry deadline is May 14.

Legends of Soccer ID
Camp at Hawaii Prep
A Legends of Soccer ID Camp, featuring coach Jeff Illingworth, will be held July 25-29 at Hawaii Preparatory Academy.
Ages 10-18 will camp from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and ages 5-9 will go from 9 a.m. to noon.

Alfred Pestrello, Ronald Nakamura and Dexter Egdamin were the top shots April 17 as BAD Company held a five-stand compact sporting clay shoot at the county trap and skeet range.
Following Pestrello(55), Nakamura and Egdamin, were Dana Okazaki (52) and Tom Griffiths (51).
The club’s next shoot is 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
